Towards Large-Scale Steady-State Enhanced Nuclear Magnetization with In Situ Detection

Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange (SABRE) boosts NMR signals of various nuclei enabling new applications spanning from magnetic resonance imaging to analytical chemistry and fundamental physics. SABRE is especially well positioned for continuous generation of enhanced magnetization on a large scale, however, several challenges need to be addressed for accomplishing this goal. Determination of concentrations in ternary and quaternary molecular gas mixtures using femtosecond Raman spectroscopy

They rely on a femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe technique based on Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy. The rotational time response of the molecular gas mixture is measured as a function of the pump-probe time delay. No selective frequency tunability is needed as the molecular rotational spectra are excited within the laser bandwidth. Serum was tested for benzodlazeplnes by fluorescence polarlzatlon Immunoassay (FPIA) on Abbott's ADx system uslng the benzodlazeplne serum reagents (Benzo S) and the benzodlazeplne urine reagents (Benzo U) after pretreatment of speclmens by means of acetone preclpltatlon. Single Gold Nanoparticle Growth Monitored in situ

The novel fastSPS setup is used to study the growth process of rodshaped gold nanoparticles in the presence of surfactant molecules. It is observed that the particles grow mainly in the direction of the short rod axis, resulting in a decrease of the aspect ratio. This is, to the best of my knowledge, the first real-time optical observation of nanoparticle growth on a single-particle level (results were published in reference ). In collaboration with Olaf Schubert the nanoparticle growth was also monitored using the novel RotPOL setup. Here a decrease of the average polarization anisotropy \(PA\) is observed.

MRI using hyperpolarized noble gases.

The aim of this study was to review the physical basis of MRI using hyperpolarized noble gases as well as the present status of preclinical and clinical applications. Non-radioactive noble gases with a nuclear spin 1/2 (He-3, Xe-129) can be hyperpolarized by optical pumping. Polarization is transferred from circularly polarized laser light to the noble-gas atoms via alkali-metal vapors (spin exchange) or metastable atoms (metastability exchange). Three-dimensional polarimetric computational integral imaging

In this paper, we propose a novel 3D polarimetric computational integral imaging system by using polarization diversity of objects under natural illumination conditions. In the system, the measured Stokes polarization parameters are utilized to generate degree of polarization images of a 3D scene. Based on degree of polarization images and original 2D images, we utilize a modified computational reconstruction method to perform 3D polarimetric image reconstruction. The system may be used to detect or classify objects with distinct polarization signatures in 3D space. Experimental results also show the proposed system may mitigate the effect of occlusion in 3D reconstruction.

Variability and polarization in the inner jet of 3C 395

We present new results on the parsec-scale jet of the quasar 3C395, derived from VLBI polarization sensitive observations made in 1995.91 and 1998.50 at 8.4, 15.4 and 22.2 GHz. The observations show a complex one-sided jet extending up to 20 mas, with a projected magnetic field essentially aligned with the radio jet. The emission is strongly dominated, in total intensity and polarization, by the core and the inner jet region (of ~3 mas length). We have studied the details of this dominant region finding clear structural variations during this ~2.5 years period, in contrast with the apparent quietness of the jet structure inferred from lower resolution VLBI observations. Higher-order polarizations on the Virasoro group and anomalies

In a previous paper the authors showed that the space of (first order) polarized functions on the Virasoro group is not, in general, irreducible. The full reduction was explicitly achieved by taking the orbit of the enveloping algebra through the vacuum. This additional step provided the proper quantization in the “strong-coupling” domain 0<c≦1. In this paper we introduce the concept of “higher order polarization” as a generalization of that of polarization. We prove that the imposing of the additional (higher-order) polarization conditions is equivalent to the taking of the above-mentioned orbit. Measurement of high order Kerr refractive index of major air components

International audience; We measure the instantaneous electronic nonlinear refractive index of N2 , O2 , and Ar at room temperature for a 90 fs and 800 nm laser pulse. Measurements are calibrated by post-pulse molecular alignment through a polarization technique. At low intensity, quadratic coefficients n2 are determined. At higher intensities, a strong negative contribution with a higher nonlinearity appears, which leads to an overall negative nonlinear Kerr refractive index in air above 26 TW/cm2 .
